One of the most obvious indicators of brake trouble is when the brake light is on. While this might simply be your car alerting you that it is time for an inspection, it could also mean that there is a serious issue with your brakes. When your brake light goes on, do not ignore it.
You may also notice a grinding or squeaking noise. Squeaks and squeals typically mean that it’s time to replace your brake pads, while a metallic grinding sound may be a bit more complex – but, it usually just means that you are long overdue for brake servicing. Any of these sounds is a sign that your breaks need attention as soon as possible.
Other indicators of faulty brakes include vibrating and wobbling, leaky fluids, a spongey or soft feeling on the brake itself, the car moving to one side when you brake, and a burning smell. Any of these descriptors call for a visit to your local auto technician.
